Transverse signal taken electrodynamically below bow contact point, while string is mounted on a monochord and tuned to 98 Hz. Torsional signal taken electrodynamically at either 10 mm from the bow contact point towards the bridge side, or close string termination (all file names containing *_torsion zum steg_*.mat) or at 10 mm from the bow contact point towards the nut side, or more distant string termination (all file names containing *_torsion zum sattel_*.mat). The number in the filename indicates the distance of the bow contact point from the bridge in cm, while the string has a free length of 68 cm, e.g. the file *_11_*.mat contains data for bowstrokes at 11 cm distance from the bridge. Upstrokes/downstrokes are indicated by *_u.mat and *_d.mat in the file name. Dates of recording indicated in the file name by session_yyyymmdd_*.mat. Manual bowing by experienced player, while each individual stroke covers a wide range for bow velocity and bow pressure, however, always exciting regular Helmholtz motion on the string. Only the file session_*_doppelzahn represents data for a non-Helmholtz case. Statistical analyses cover the wide dynamic range, and structural analyses use smaller windows of comparable levels, the position of which are indicated in the files startpunkte_*.m. File formats are MATLAB files. For all *.mat files: column 1 of table Y is the transverse time signal (0.1 per mm), column 2 the torsional time signal (0.004 per 1°). Sampling frequency is 48 kHz. Raw data for the Mores R (2019) Further empirical data for torsion on bowed strings. PLOS ONE 14(2): e0211217. https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0211217 |
