Brauchen wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken heute noch Erwerbungsprofile?

Abstract

Erwerbungsprofile sind Konzepte, anhand derer der Bestand von Bibliotheken aufgebaut und erweitert werden kann. In der vorliegenden Hausarbeit wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob und wenn ja, welchen Mehrwert Erwerbungsprofile für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken haben. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt dabei auf der Etatpolitik, der Publikationsflut sowie den E-Medien. Die Autorinnen kommen zu dem Schluss, dass Erwerbungsprofile ein hilfreiches Konzept sein können, wenn es um das Bestands- und Erwerbungsmanagement geht. Zwar können Probleme bei der Einführung eines Erwerbungsprofils auftreten, wie zum Beispiel die eingeschränkte Eignung für kleinere oder finanziell weniger gut ausgestattete Bibliotheken. Doch da Erwerbungsprofile anpassbare, transparente und objektive Instrumente darstellen, muss die Frage nach Eignung jede Einrichtung individuell für sich beantworten. Ob Erwerbungsprofile langfristig ein sinnvolles Konzept für Bibliotheken darstellen, sollten Längsschnittstudien eruieren, indem sie objektive Richtlinien für den Bestand festlegen.

Acquisition profiles are concepts by which library collections can be built up and expanded. In this paper the question whether acquisition profiles have any value for academic libraries and if so, what value, is explored. Particular attention is put on problems of budgeting policies, the sheer amount of publications as well as e-media. The authors conclude acquisition profiles can be a helpful concept regarding the management of collections and acquisitions. While there may be some problems with introducing a profile, for instance limited suitability for smaller or underfunded libraries, these can be addressed individually, since acquisition profiles are adaptable, transparent and objective tools. Whether acquisition profiles are a sensible solution in the long term, should be evaluated by performing longitudinal studies setting objective guidelines for collections.
