Abstract

ICAO Annex 16 - Environmental Protection --- Volume III - CO2 Certification Requirement uses a Metric Value (MV) for the CO2 emissions of aircraft. The equations given in the standard are plotted. A simple derivation shows that the shape of the MV is based more on its definition with the exponent 0.24 than the physics of the aircraft. The limit values specified in the standard follows the natural shape of the MV. The exponent 0.24 complicates matters unnecessary.
