Klangliche und musikalische Narrative im Raum

Abstract

Diese Arbeit untersucht klangliche und musikalische Narration im Raum und geht der Frage nach, wie erzählerische Prozesse jenseits verbaler Sprache durch Klänge, Musik und räumliche Gestaltung entstehen können. Ausgangspunkt bildet eine theoretische Auseinandersetzung mit zentralen Begriffen wie Narration, Klang, Musik und Raum, aus der eine arbeitsfähige Beschreibung klanglicher Narration entwickelt wird. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt dabei auf dem Raum als eigenständiger erzählerischer Dimension, die Wahrnehmung, Strukturierung und Bedeutungszuschreibung klanglicher Ereignisse maßgeblich beeinflusst. Anstatt ein umfassendes theoretisches System zu formulieren, verfolgt die Arbeit einen bewusst exemplarischen Ansatz. Auf Grundlage der theoretischen Überlegungen werden konkrete Fallbeispiele konzipiert, produziert und analysiert, die das narrative Potenzial räumlicher Klanggestaltung praktisch erproben. Die Umsetzung erfolgt im Production Lab des Ligeti Zentrums in Hamburg unter Nutzung eines 32‑kanaligen Spatial‑Audio‑Systems. This thesis investigates sonic and musical narration in space and explores how narrative processes can emerge beyond verbal language through sound, music, and spatial design. The study is grounded in a theoretical examination of central concepts such as narration, sound, music, and space, from which a practicable description of sonic narration is developed. Particular attention is given to space as an autonomous narrative dimension that significantly shapes the perception, structuring, and attribution of meaning to sonic events. Rather than proposing a comprehensive theoretical system, this thesis adopts a deliberately exemplary approach. Based on the theoretical considerations, specific case studies are conceived, produced, and analyzed in order to practically explore the narrative potential of spatial sound design. The realization of these case studies takes place in the Production Lab of the Ligeti Center in Hamburg, utilizing a 32‑channel spatial audio system. The results are intended as open contributions to an ongoing discourse on sonic and musical narration in space.
