| Title: | Design and Test of a Controller Approach for Adaptive Cruise Control in CARLA | Language: | English | Authors: | Nguyen, Thanh | Keywords: | Adaptive Cruise Control; ACC; CARLA; Python; PID Controller | Issue Date: | 1-Sep-2023 | Abstract: | This paper discusses developing and testing an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) controller approach for automated driving using lidar sensors in CARLA, an open-source simulation environment. ACC systems enable drivers to set a desired speed and minimum distance from the vehicle in front, using radar or lidar sensors to detect the speed and distance of other vehicles. Due to the complexity involved in developing such control systems, simulation environments are necessary, and CARLA provides a realistic environment for testing and evaluating automated driving control systems. The article describes the design of an ACC controller with lidar sensors in CARLA and emphasizes the importance of testing the functionality of the controller approach in a wide variety of traffic and environmental scenarios. |
