Abstract:

As part of this project, a universally applicable test stand was developed to record the interface forces of mountable machine guns, using the MAG58 model as an example. The goal was to measure all mechanical loads at the contact points between weapon and mount with minimal effort and high reproducibility. The development process followed the general product development model according to VDI 2221. After two concept iterations, a CAD-based detailed design was selected using the evaluation method of VDI 2225, Sheet 3, and subsequently validated through a design FMEA and analytical stress analysis. The result is a modular aluminum profile-based test frame that can be adapted to different weapon models using interchangeable adapters. Force measurement is conducted via a fixed bearing with a three-axis force sensor and several pendulum supports with single-axis sensors.
