Abstract:

When founding your own startup choosing the right location is a much discussed aspect for many entrepreneurs. The very individual requirements of a fast-growing, scalable startup that is predicated on hypotheses are not easily matched by every location. Based on the rather complicated relationships between entrepreneurs, startups, investors, the old economy, politics right up to the acceptance within society, one in this case speaks of the startup ecosystem. On the basis of the growing number of startup ecosystems all around the world, in the last few years the entrepreneurship research has shown an initial theoretical exposition of the system and their participants, respectively. Until now studies haven’t payed much attention to the single entrepreneur as a central figure of the system. The research question in this thesis, detecting the influence of entrepreneurs within the startup ecosystem, which is reviewed with the aid of expert interviews, is intended to revise this research deficit. Entrepreneurs have a major influence on the local startup ecosystem. Not only with the launch of their startup at this location and its implementation or the high level of identification with the task, but especially in respect of the originating (success) stories, the transfer of knowledge and the great level of networking among each other. Additionally the serial- and hero entrepreneurs have a strong impact on the startup ecosystem containing monetary and structural influences. The higher the entrepreneurs impact is, the higher the location can be valued as a factor of success for digital startups.
